How a scan day works

You choose the ground and the date. We bring the scanner, scan every player and make the guards. Once the day is set, we send your players a team link to design their guards.

Plan a scan day
  1. The technician holds the handheld scanner beside the Mobile Mouthguards table at an event.

    Book a date

Send us your club or school, the ground, how many players and the dates that suit. Give us 2 to 3 weeks’ notice.

  2. A player sits by the portable scanning table while the technician talks her through the scan.

    Players pay first

Each player pays before the scan day, and your club coordinator organises the orders with us. Every player gets an itemised receipt to claim from their health fund, depending on their cover.

  3. A player in a grey hoodie has his teeth scanned beside the Guard Your Game banner.

    Scan day

We set up a table, a chair and the portable scanner at your ground or school. Each player’s scan takes under five minutes, with no impression putty.

  4. A technician shapes a mouthguard over a dental model using the laboratory's thermoforming machine.

    Made in Croydon

Our lab inside Dental Spot makes each guard from that player’s scan, in the team design with their name. Allow 7 to 10 working days after the scan day.

  5. A player's 3D scan of his teeth on the laptop screen beside the handheld scanner.

    Scans kept on file

We keep every player’s scan on file, so a replacement doesn't need a new scan unless growing teeth have changed shape.

Mouthguard rules

Junior hockey, many school competitions and combat sports make mouthguards compulsory. The NRL, AFL and junior rugby union recommend them.

Compulsory

  • Muay ThaiIFMA and Muaythai Australia: a form-fitted guard, not red or pink.
  • MMA and kickboxingUnified MMA rules: no round starts without a mouthpiece. WAKO kickboxing: a guard in any colour.

  • NRLPolicy P012 strongly recommends mouthguards at all ages, with a custom-fitted guard as the ideal.
  • NSWRL junior leagueNo rule of its own. The NSWRL policy manual lists the NRL policy.

Club questions

Got a team link?

Design your guard from that link. Lost it? Ask your club coordinator or call us.

How many players do we need for a scan day?

At least 30 players in Sydney, or 50 interstate.

What if we have fewer than 30 players?

Players can book their own scan at our Croydon clinic inside Dental Spot. Call us to talk through other arrangements for your club.

What does each guard cost?

Light is $230 for players 15 and under. Medium is $320 for 16 and over. Heavy is $365 for MMA, Muay Thai, kickboxing and hockey. Names, numbers, flags and symbols are included; a club logo or other artwork adds $20.

How long until the guards are ready?

Allow 7 to 10 working days after the scan day. We confirm how the guards reach your players when we plan the day.

What happens if a player loses their guard?

We keep every player’s scan on file, so a lost guard can be replaced without a new scan. Growing teeth, braces or dental work mean a new scan.

Can you run a scan day outside Sydney?

Yes, for 50 or more players. Send us your location and dates and we’ll work out travel with you.

Who makes the guards?

Anthony Adaimy and his team have made mouthguards since 2009. Anthony is a dental prosthetist, and our lab is inside Dental Spot at 7 The Strand, Croydon.
